Whilst you are in the altered state of hypnosis,  it’s easy to enlist the help of your subconscious mind – the part of your brain which does things without you needing to tell it, such as keeping your heart beating and eyes blinking.

Sometimes this part of your mind gets mixed messages such as 'smoking a cigarette will make me feel good' or 'speaking in public will make me feel afraid'.

These messages become reinforced, through repetitive behaviour patterns, often forming unwanted habits.  Although you may feel as though things are out of your control, your subconscious mind is only doing as it has been programmed to do over a period of time.  This is where hypnotherapy can be a really useful tool.

Access to the sub-conscious mind, during a pleasantly relaxing hypnotherapy session, gives you the opportunity to challenge those negative thought patterns, exposing them for what they actually are (habits), not what you feel they are (more powerful than you).  This opens up the possibility of choice and change.

Together, empathic counselling and hypnotherapy make a robust combination.
